Who we are

The States of Jersey Fire and Rescue Service

We exist to make lives safer. We are committed to this key goal; it’s who we are. The States of Jersey Fire & Rescue Service is there to help prevent some of the most devastating events a person can experience in their life, and to protect Islanders in the event they do occur.

The service is part of the Government of Jersey’s Department for Justice and Home Affairs. The Minister is advised and supported by the Chief Fire Officer in setting policy for a range of safety, security and criminal justice matters, including fire and rescue.

The Chief Fire Officer also oversees and directs the work of the Government of Jersey’s Emergency Planning Unit (EPU). This team supports the Chief Minister, Emergencies Council, senior civil servants – and therefore the whole island – in coordinating the assessment of significant risks, building resilience and ensuring arrangements are in place for emergency services, other government departments, private and third sector partners and our communities to respond to and recover from significant events.

Our Service

On the front line are our Firefighters, Crew Commanders and Watch Commanders. They are embedded across the different departments of the service and in the Red, White, Blue and Green Watches, responding to emergencies, educating Islanders, and working with the community to improve fire safety standards every day.
