Home Fire Safety Check

Home Fire Safety Check

Islanders can now access home fire safety information, with a personalised action plan, online.

The States of Jersey Fire and Rescue Service offers the Home Fire Safety Check, which will enable you to carry out your own home fire risk assessment for free.

The online tool takes the answers given and creates an action plan giving basic tips to help keep your home fire safe.

When using the tool, you are asked for information about each part of your property, with the answers then generating easy-to-follow advice that can be kept and referred to at any time.

The online home safety check tool does not replace the in-person visits the Service offers to vulnerable residents in the Island.

The tool was developed following a successful pilot study in collaboration with Fire Kills and Safelincs, under the National Fire Chief Council’s Prevention programme.

Home visits for vulnerable Islanders

Vulnerable Islanders, who require a visit from our Fire Safety team, can arrange for a firefighter to come and look at all areas of accident and fire risk within your home.

The States of Jersey Fire and Rescue Service will advise you on the installation and maintenance of smoke alarms. We'll also provide guidance and information on how to stay safe from fire, including:

  • safe disposal of smoking materials
  • use of candles
  • electric heaters and appliances
  • kitchen safety
  • airing cupboards
  • electric blankets

We'll help you make an escape plan to prepare you, should a fire occur in your home.

Email the Fire Safety team to request a home fire safety visit.
