Building standards
Building standards
The States of Jersey Fire and Rescue Service fire safety protection department review planning and building applications and provide comment to ensure any development is built to meet current fire safety guidance and regulatory requirements.
We use any relevant standards to ensure the building complies and is practically safe for both occupants and any attending emergency responders.
Our Fire Safety officers are trained to Skills for Justice standards to provide expert advice to building controllers on areas of consideration including locations of water supplies, travel distances, suppression systems, compartmentation and fire stopping, and access and facilities for firefighters.
Technical guidance
Part 2 of the Building Bye-Laws set standards for fire safety in new and altered buildings. The technical guidance in this section provides design guidance on meeting those standards.
Fire safety legislation
Jersey’s laws are there to protect its residents and visitors alike. This fire safety legislation ensures safety standards are met and reduces the risk.
Testing & maintenance
It is the occupier's responsibility to ensure all systems are properly maintained and all the necessary work and tests are carried out.
