To mark International Control Room Week, we are raising awareness of what information you need to make a 999 call and what the control room operator will ask.
States of Jersey Fire and Rescue Service received an emergency call on Monday 20 October to rescue George when he took a tumble off the cliff path.
The Emergency Services Control Centre received an unusual call on Friday 17 October, after a curious two-year-old found himself in a bit of a sticky — or rather potty — situation. Young Leo managed to get his head firmly wedged inside his potty. Firefighters quickly set to work using a small pad saw to carefully free him from his new necklace, and rewarded him with a Fire Service trauma teddy for his bravery.
The Emergency Services Control Centre received multiple 999 calls reporting a garage well alight in a residential estate in St Brelade on the evening of Saturday 11 October. Callers also reported the fire spreading to nearby vehicles and properties. The Jersey Fire and Rescue service thank the nearby residents for their cooperation and quick actions. This helped ensure the safety of everyone in the area.
Islanders are being reminded not to park in restricted areas after firefighters had difficulty accessing a property in St Helier, where a man had to be rescued from a fire in his flat on Saturday 11 October. Access routes are to be kept clear at all times so crews can reach emergencies without delay.
Jersey Fire and Rescue Service received an emergency call to respond to a sea rescue at Belcroute Bay on Friday 10 October, after a passerby heard cries for help from a swimmer and alerted our Emergency Service Control Centre.
Islanders who carry out controlled burning are being reminded to be considerate and responsible following the Jersey Fire and Rescue Service being called out to such an incident earlier this week.
86-year-old holidaymaker Maureen slipped while boarding the small motorised train to St. Helier, becoming trapped between the seats and the vehicle body. Using lifting and carrying sheets, a crew of five firefighters safely freed Maureen. Her warmth and humour made the incident a memorable one for the crew.

Earlier today, (31 July) the JFRS were called to deal with a situation at Grosnez which required a rope rescue, having received a call just after 11 am.
Taking part in this year’s Island Walk, the team has so far raised over £5,000 in support of The Fire Fighters Charity and the Around the Island Walk Trust.
