Road Safety

Road safety affects us all, whether you drive a car, ride a bicycle or motorbike, catch a bus or walk. We do more than provide advice.

Electrical Safety

Don't take the power of electricity and its potential for fire-related hazards for granted. Reduce your risks when using electricity.

Water safety

The beach is a fantastic place to be, but there can be hidden dangers. Always look out for potential hazards and learn how to stay safe.

Seasonal safety

Heating, decorations, cooking indoors and barbecuing outdoors – the different seasons bring different dangers. Learn how to stay safe.

Bonfires

Fire can spread easily and smoke can cause undue nuisance to your neighbours, so where and how you build your bonfire is important.

PROTECTION

Reducing risks and incidents, through effective, efficient and targeted prevention activities.

Building standards

We use any relevant standards to ensure buildings comply and are safe for both occupants and any attending emergency responders.

Fire safety legislation

Jersey’s laws are there to protect its residents and visitors alike. This fire safety legislation ensures safety standards are met and reduces the risk.

Testing & maintenance

It is the occupier's responsibility to ensure all systems are properly maintained and all the necessary work and tests are carried out.

BASC

Safety in Action

Year 5 students are taught how to stay safe in a fire by the Fire Safety team, including escape plans and how to travel through smoke.

Fire setting

Without help and guidance, fire setting can continue into adulthood and lead to more serious consequences, including serious injury.

Operations

To best serve our Island, we commit to excellence and ensure our every action upholds the safety of our community.

What we do

On an Island, we aren't able to call on other Fire and Rescue Services to attend incidents, so we must become experts in all areas.

On-Call

Our wholetime crews are backed up by our on-call firefighters. These part-time Watches based at both our Western and St Helier stations.

Our partners

To ensure we can help make Jersey's community as safe as possible, our work is supported by many services, organisations and charities.

Emergency Planning

Emergency Planning works to review risks, develop emergency plans and test responses in preparation for a major incident or emergency.

Training

To ensure our crews are always prepared, we train rigorously and develop our knowledge in a range of activities, on and off-Island.

A word from our chief

"Our dedicated team at the Jersey Fire and Rescue Service is committed to safeguarding our community through prevention, protection, and response. We continually strive to enhance our services, ensuring the safety and well-being of all Islanders."
