At approximately 4:00pm this afternoon, the Emergency Services Control Centre received a report of an open land fire in the area of Grève de Lecq.
Two fire appliances were immediately mobilised to the scene, supported by a water carrier. On arrival, crews were faced with a headland alight, measuring approximately 20 by 100 metres. Firefighters quickly got to work using two medium jets to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to surrounding areas.
Crews remained on scene to ensure the fire was fully extinguished and the area made safe.
Watch Commander Richard Ryan would like to take this opportunity to remind the public that, with the hot weather set to continue, extra caution should be taken when visiting areas of open land. Fires can ignite easily and spread rapidly in dry conditions.
