In the event of an emergency call 999
Around midday on Tuesday 30 September, the Fire and Rescue Service was called through the Emergency Services Control Centre after 86-year-old holidaymaker Maureen slipped while boarding the small motorised train to St. Helier, becoming trapped between the seats and the vehicle body.
A crew of five firefighters attended and, using lifting and carrying sheets, safely freed Maureen in a calm and controlled manner. A welfare check was carried out confirming she was safe and well.
Far from letting the mishap dampen her spirits, Maureen herself a retired paramedic, charmed the crew with her humour and even shared a little light-hearted flirting, much to everyone’s delight. She later posed for a team photograph, leaving firefighters and bystanders with smiles just as big as hers.
Watch Commander Ryan said: “It was a privilege to help Maureen today. Her warmth, humour, and life experience made the encounter memorable for all of us. She’s a real inspiration at 86, and we wish her the very best for the rest of her holiday."
