Islanders who carry out controlled burning are being reminded to be considerate and responsible following the Jersey Fire and Rescue Service being called out to such an incident earlier this week.
Controlled burning relates to the burning of things like garden waste materials.
On Tuesday evening, (30 September) JFRS received several calls from concerned islanders about a reported fire on a piece of land near Five Oaks, which the JFRS attended, which was a controlled burning, but had created a lot of smoke in the area.
Station Commander Ryan Hall said: “We’d remind people that if they are undertaking controlled burning of things like garden waste, they should inform our Control Room on 444705 so that if we receive calls from concerned people if they see smoke in a certain area, that we’re aware of the incident already and resources aren’t used attending it.
Anyone undertaking controlled burning should also be aware of the area they’re using, being considerate of neighbours, and most importantly, ensure that water is easily on hand to extinguish the controlled burning, if needed.”

We are proud to welcome JJ Lloyd, Colin Brady, Bethany Moisan, and Stephen Reed to the States of Jersey Fire and Rescue Service as our new on-call firefighters.
