Emergency services, including the States of Jersey Fire & Rescue Service, are urging motorists to drive with extra care following a number of road traffic collisions (RTCs) yesterday, after rainfall created hazardous driving conditions.
The recent showers, following a prolonged dry spell, have left roads particularly slippery due to the build-up of oil and debris on the surface.
While no injuries were reported in the incidents attended, emergency crews are reminding drivers that even light rain can significantly reduce traction and increase stopping distances.
“After a dry period, the first rain can lift oil and grime to the surface, making roads slick and unpredictable,” said Inspector Lawrence Courtness, SOJP’s Roads Policing lead. “We’re asking all road users to slow down, allow extra space, and drive to the conditions.”
The Service is appealing to anyone with knowledge of vacant properties, whether short or long term, to get in touch or help spread the word.
Four teams of four firefighters will take part in the relay event on 21 June, while Firefighter Marcin Mietelka will go it alone, tackling the entire 48.1-mile route solo.
