Request for training properties for firefighters
The Service is appealing to anyone with knowledge of vacant properties, whether short or long term, to get in touch or help spread the word.
In the event of an emergency call 999
This morning, White Watch responded to a heart warming call for help — not from a person, but from the Jersey Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (JSPCA). The mission? To reunite a devoted mother duck with her missing ducklings in St. Brelade.
Arriving promptly on the scene, firefighters discovered three ducklings had become trapped in a culvert drain way. Armed with nets, gentle hands, and a solid sense of teamwork, our crew carefully coaxed the tiny trio to safety. The ducklings — now affectionately named Ben, Jerry, and Rolo — were cold but otherwise unharmed.
But the adventure didn’t stop there.
A further four ducklings had somehow ended up in a nearby swimming pool. Once again, nets came to the rescue, and the team successfully gathered the remaining siblings, bringing the total family headcount to seven.
All the while, their watchful and clearly concerned mother remained close by, keeping her distance but never leaving her little ones, refusing to be rescued first.
Back at the station, firefighters gave the dedicated mum a name of her own: Joyce.
“This was one of those jobs that reminds us why we love what we do,” said Watch Commander Ryan. “It might not have been flames or ladders today — but it was no less important. We’re just happy to help, whatever the call may be.”

Four teams of four firefighters will take part in the relay event on 21 June, while Firefighter Marcin Mietelka will go it alone, tackling the entire 48.1-mile route solo.
