Sea rescue at Belcroute Bay

Sea rescue at Belcroute Bay

At 0751 on Friday 10th October, Jersey Fire and Rescue Service received an emergency call to respond to a sea rescue at Belcroute Bay, after a passerby heard cries for help from a swimmer and alerted our Emergency Service Control Centre.

Our inshore rescue boat (IRB) crewed by five firefighters was launched from La Haule slipway, alongside a fire appliance with four firefighters in water rescue clothing who proceeded directly to Belcroute Bay, in case an immediate swim rescue was required.

The woman had encountered difficulties during her morning swim and was able to cling to rocks until our IRB crew reached her. She was safely rescued and received immediate medical attention for hypothermia until an ambulance arrived.

JFRS Station Commander Craig Channing said, “We extend our sincere gratitude to the passerby who raised the alarm. Their quick thinking and willingness to act made a critical difference. Had it been earlier in the day or if no one had been nearby, the outcome could have been far more serious. On behalf of JFRS, we wish the woman a full and speedy recovery.”
