In the event of an emergency call 999
Today, Jersey Fire and Rescue Service responded to a fire in St. Mary with two fire engines. Four breathing apparatus wearers worked swiftly to bring the fire under control and then ventilated the building. One occupant was checked over by paramedics at the scene as a precaution, but we’re thankful to report that no injuries were sustained.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but believed to have started in a tumble dryer. We want to take this opportunity to remind everyone of some key fire safety tips for using tumble dryers:
Regular Maintenance:
Clean the lint filter after every load. Excess lint can block airflow and increase the risk of fire.
Don’t Overload:
Overloading your dryer can lead to overheating, which can be hazardous.
Proper Ventilation:
Ensure the vent hose is clear of obstructions and correctly installed. Proper ventilation prevents overheating.
Stay Nearby:
Always try to be home when using a dryer and avoid running it overnight.
