New on-call recruits welcomed into the Service at pass-out parade
Following a successful recruitment campaign and subsequent training programme, the 11 new firefighters are joining crews based at either the Western or Town stations.
In the event of an emergency call 999
Fifteen firefighters were called to a flat in Halkett Place this morning, after members of the public heard a smoke alarm and saw smoke coming from an upstairs window.
The alarm was raised at approximately 9am. Two pumps attended and a third was dispatched. Our on-call firefighters were called into the station as back up.
Upon arrival, firefighters were unable to enter the building through the entrance so used a ladder to gain access via a first floor window.
There, they found unattended cooking had caused a small fire, contained in the kitchen area.
A resident was led out of the property by firefighters and treated at the scene by paramedics.
The fire was extinguished and the road, which had been closed, reopened.
We would like to thank the members of the public who called 999, when they heard the alarm and saw smoke.

Matt Roberts set off at 4pm on Easter Saturday and ran for 23 hours to complete the challenge.
